Roth Rules for Kids (3 min read)*
https://www.kiplinger.com/article/saving/t046-c002-s001-roth-rules-for-kids.html
*Note: The catch to kids investing in Roth IRAs is documenting the earned income. If they have a job from an employer that takes out payroll taxes, great! But if they’re earning their money by mowing lawns or babysitting for cash, then they’re self-employed, and they may need to file a tax return and pay self-employment tax of 15.3% (which is the self-employed version of payroll taxes) to be safe opening a Roth IRA. (Anyone with at least $400 of self-employment income in a year is legally required to file a tax return and pay self-employment tax.) Also, keep in mind banks and brokerage firms may require a minimum deposit of $1000 or more to open the account, or may have similar minimums to invest in mutual or index funds.
